There are several species of woodcreeper in Costa Rica. The species differ in the elevations of their favoured habitats. I saw four species of which two are more common in the lowlands, while two favour middle or highland elevations. I managed to photograph three species. These are shown below.

During the coach ride through the wet lowlands to Tortueguero I saw a woodcreeper on some fence posts. It had a brown body with white markings. I noted a curved bill which is diagnostic of Streak-headed woodcreeper.
